Calling all Women - Pledge today for health

Calling all Women - Pledge today for health

Earlier in the year we explored ‘Men’s Health’ which was aligned with Men’s Health Week, a fabulous initiative that has been running for over 10 years now helping to raise awareness of boys and men’s health issues. So you would imagine that an equally inspirational Women’s Health Week has also been running strong too? Well actually it has not. Only this year, thanks to Jean Hailes, we will see the launch of the first ever Australian Women’s Health Week!

The Women’s Health Week is a week dedicated to all women across Australia to make health a priority. Every day in the week takes on a different focus. We encourage you to sit up, take notes and put yourself on top of the ‘to do’ list! Yes you can and you deserve it. At the Wesley LifeShape Clinic we see many amazing women who have taken courageous and positive leaps towards prioritising and improving their health. It is heartening to see that over two thirds of our clients are female, well done girls for taking such a vested interest in your health!

Sign up today and during the week of the 2nd – 6th of September, try these simple ideas to get your started:

W: Wellness

“Prevention is the key”

– Focus on proactive wellness; pledge to make long term improvements to your health.

O: Ourselves

“Time out just for you”

– Females are generally efficient at organizing everyone else but often fail to allocate time to self. Even a short time out can help.

M: Move

“Get active, one small step at a time”

– Find activities that you really enjoy doing as you then have a greater chance of doing movement that lasts long term.

E: Eat

“Eat well”

– Forget labeling foods ‘good’ or ‘bad’, try to eat a balance of ‘everyday’ and ‘occasional’ foods.

N: Networking

Reach out to family and friends”

– When you need some support then remember many people are happy to listen, and if you think others need help, don’t forget to ask them, “R U OK?”.

Take a pledge

We can talk all we like about ideas and focus areas but to change behaviors we need some courage. Here at the Wesley LifeShape Clinic we define courage as the “choice to do what you know to be right for you, despite any fear or discomfort”. Change can start by making just one small change in your life. The Women’s Health Week encourages everyone to make a small pledge for better health. What would yours be? Take your chance to make one small change to start you on your journey to better health. Need some ideas to get you started?

  • I pledge to eat a healthy breakfast everyday
  • I pledge to find an activity that I love to do
  • I pledge to eat vegetarian once a week
  • I pledge to go to bed by 10pm and get more sleep
  • I pledge to drink more water
  • I pledge to ride to work once a week
