DEXA stands for Duel Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry and is the most accurate body composition measurement system publicly available. DEXA is the gold standard for body composition testing and the clinic uses it to accurately map clients’ body composition changes, as well as to identify where internal body fat is contributing to increased health risks.
Why should I have a DEXA as part of my program?

What do the results of a DEXA show me?
The results are conveniently available immediately after every scan, which will be explained by an expert allied health professional at the consultation. From every total body DEXA scan you receive an individual scan report with the following information:
• Muscle mass in each region of your body (kg)
• Fat mass in each region of your body (kg)
• Body fat percentage in each region of your body (%)
• Estimation of Visceral Adipose (fat) tissue (sq cm2)
• Bone mineral density measurement (gm/cm2)
• Your body composition data compared to evidence based reference norms
• Printed and emailed PDF of your report to keep
The technology is very safe. The scan takes about 6 minutes to complete. It’s one of the lowest radiation dose tests available, equivalent to being outdoors for half a day or less than the natural radiation exposure from an airline flight from Sydney to Brisbane. The Discovery DEXA System was installed by Hologic who are widely regarded as the leader in DEXA technology across the globe. Please note pregnant women will not be scanned.
