DEXA is the gold standard in testing body composition throughout the world and is used regularly in medical research. DEXA stands for dual energy x-ray absorptiometry, and is the most accurate body composition measurement system publicly available. All other measurement devices and technologies compare themselves to DEXA’s accuracy.  A DEXA scan provides you with precise individualised body composition information together with a measure of bone density that no other device can achieve.

Each person has a unique body composition, nutrition profile, exercise tolerance and personal history. However, with precise data on how much fat tissue there is and where it is distributed, your weight loss strategy can be customised and continually fine-tuned.   Where body fat is stored and how it is burned is very individual and genetically controlled.

By undertaking DEXA scans at commencement and on completion of your active weight loss phase, we can accurately map targeted body composition changes, as well as to identify where internal body fat is contributing to increased health risks.

The technology is also very safe. It’s one of the lowest radiation dose tests available, equivalent to being outdoors for half a day.  The Discovery DEXA System was installed by Hologic who are widely regarded as the leader in DEXA technology across the globe.

From every total body DEXA scan you receive an individual scan report with the following information:

  • Muscle mass in each region of your body (kg)
  • Fat mass in each region of your body (kg)
  • Body fat percentage in each region of your body (%)
  • Estimation of Visceral Adipose (fat) tissue (sq cm2)
  • Bone mineral density measurement (gm/cm2)
  • Your body composition data compared to evidence-based reference norms
  • Printed and emailed PDF of your report to keep
