Before joining the Clinic, Margaret says she really felt stuck in a cycle of unhealthy habits.
“Unhealthy habits develop in a spiral,” says Margaret. “You feel heavy, therefore you’re reluctant to move, which leads to more sedentary behaviour, which leads to more weight gain. It’s a vicious cycle.”
It was a photo of herself that initially motivated Margaret to join the Clinic and do something about her weight.
“I knew that I had gained weight during the pandemic lockdown, but I hadn’t fully grasped how much extra I was carrying until after seeing a photo of myself,” says Margaret. “I began to realise how much more difficult it was to move around, go for a walk, or even just carry out daily activities carrying the extra weight. When I realised how hard it was to get up and get moving, I decided to take action.”
After trying other options in the past, Margaret quickly identified how LifeShape Clinic is different.
“I had lost weight previously after my pregnancies (I have 3 grown-up children),” says Margaret. “Other options were effective for me at that time. But LifeShape is different because it addresses the underlying causes of overeating - whether you are a social eater, an emotional eater or something else. With the dieticians, exercise physiologists, and psychologists, the program addresses the whole person, not just eating habits. New exercise habits, thinking habits and cooking habits are all considered.”
After her 14kg^ weight loss, Margaret is enjoying many benefits.
“I feel lighter and more energetic!” says Margaret. “I am able to incorporate many more activities into my day, I sleep better, and I feel more confident with the clothes I am wearing. I’m very proud that I have been able to maintain a regular workout regimen at reformer Pilates. It is a form of exercise that I really love and it has been a bonus for me in helping to burn those extra calories while enjoying all the health benefits of exercise for example greater muscle tone and fewer aches and pains in my joints. I’m proud that I am now much healthier than before. I’m looking forward to maintaining a healthy routine while also enjoying foods that I love, without compromising my weight.”
Furthermore, Margaret feels she has been equipped with the skills to maintain her healthy lifestyle long term.
“Maintaining healthy habits is about valuing yourself and your health,” says Margaret. “If health is a priority, making healthy choices follows logically. Understanding how I can incorporate all foods into a healthy diet will help me maintain the habits long term, along with a good daily routine of planning, shopping, and exercising.”
Margaret has this advice for anyone thinking about doing a program.
“You can succeed!” says Margaret. “With the support of weekly visits to the Dietitian and the expertise of the Exercise Physiologist, the program will work if you follow all the advice. The experts can help you set a realistic weight loss goal and guide to healthy choices so you don’t feel deprived.
Even though the cost of the program might seem daunting, the cost of bad health is in some ways worse. If you feel like you want to lose weight, joining the LifeShape program is an investment in long term change for health. In other words - Do it!”
