"The consistency and the mindset shift is truly what has helped me"

“I initially joined LifeShape Clinic after seeing a photo of myself in our newly installed pool and realised I was not at a healthy weight. I was 24 and 103.9kgs. I knew I wanted a change, but had no idea where to start so I made a phone call and the wonderful Client Services Team talked me through the process and set up an appointment where I could ask all the questions I had with a Dietitian. 

What was most comforting for me was knowing I was not alone, having weekly check ins where I know I can work with the Dietitians to structure my eating habits around events/holiday etc made me confident that I could do it. Being able to set up a payment plan was also a great help! 

I think if I hadn’t taken the first step I’d either still be unhappy and extremely overweight or trying to do another 8/10/12 week challenge only to put the weight back on afterwards. I had lost a fair amount of weight through trying a range of different challenges, but it was always “yay it’s over” at the end and back into eating in an unhealthy way. The consistency of LifeShape Clinic and the mindset shift is truly what has helped me consistently lose weight. 

The routine I have established through LifeShape Clinic has definitely set me up for life whether it’s to lose a few more kilos or maintain my current weight. I have the knowledge and the confidence to go straight back into this routine when I have an event or a holiday where I am more relaxed. 

I am so incredibly happy with my progress and the biggest thing for me was the ability to continue my exercise/sport that I love, but not feeling absolutely exhausted afterwards! My Exercise Physiologist was incredible in helping me understand where my heart rate should be to really optimise my exercise for weight loss - which I believe was a big key in my success. I loved that along with tracking weight loss on the scales we also tracked my measurements around my neck, hips and waist! It was interesting to see where I carried most of my weight through this! 

Originally my goal weight was below 90kgs, as I have never been below that. However after achieving that goal before the end of my program we set a new goal of 85kg, and then a total loss of 20kgs. And I achieved all of these! The goal setting definitely helped with my mindset and ensuring I stuck to my plan so I could achieve my goal. My goal now is to hit the 80kg mark, and because of the wonderful help of my Dietitian I know I have the confidence, strength and ability to do so! 

The one thing I wish I had told myself is that you won’t notice it straight away but trust the journey and take LOTS of photos! It was only 5/6 months after starting my program and having taken a photo at the beach that I realised just how much my body had changed! As I see myself in the mirror every day I didn’t notice until I could compare the pictures! 

Besides taking photos, I’d recommend keeping a pair of old pants. This is another great way to see the progress you have made and it makes for an awesome end of program photo! 

The best piece advice I got through this program was from my wonderful Dietitian who said “a piece of cake tastes the same whether you’ve taken one, two, or six bites. Enjoy the taste and notice when it’s starting to taste the same”. This really allowed me to enjoy the “treats” but also notice how I was eating for taste rather than to fill myself. It was the perfect balance! 

To anyone thinking of starting! Just do it, trust yourself, trust the program and enjoy the incredible journey you’re about embark on!
