Living up in sunny Townsville, our client Damien completed his LifeShape Program remotely with our clinicians via Skype. With the help of our team, Damien’s now lost over 18kg^ and we were lucky to catch up with him to find out a little bit about his journey.
“Before starting my program I was in a good place in life,” says Damien. “My wife and I both had new jobs, the kids were at school, and we had just bought a house. Living the dream! Yet, I found myself to be unhappy because my weight and moving around was more challenging than it should have been. I figured I wanted to lose about 20kg and realised that was the equivalent to carrying a fully laden suitcase all the time. From travelling quite a bit, I know that this is not pleasant and decided to get rid of the excess weight to make day-to-day life easier.
“If I hadn’t made some healthy changes when I did, I could see myself being continually unhappy with my weight and poor food choices. Health wise, I could have developed weight-related medical issues as well. I had tried many diets and programs in the past with varying degrees of success. Maintaining healthy habits long-term has always been a struggle for me historically.
“LifeShape Clinic offered regular face-to-face appointments – even when divided by 1,600km – that allowed me to honestly open up about my struggles without judgement and to share my successes with celebration. The team have provided me with skills to make healthy food choices, allow me to plan and enjoy treats, make exercise a regular part of my life and to forgive myself if I overindulge. The plan is to keep the plan moving forward despite what happened the day before.
“After losing 18.1kg^, I feel great! My cholesterol has dropped and I have noticed that moving around is a lot easier. I took my daughter to watch the WNBL basketball and she shot some baskets with other kids after the game while I rebounded the ball. I was surprised how easy it was for me to run around and jump. I think one of my biggest achievements on the program was dropping the weekly takeaway meals to virtually none. It was just a habit to eat takeaway at least once or twice per week.
“Looking back I wish I could tell myself not to be so hard on myself. So, if I had any advice for someone considering the program it would be just take it one step at a time. You have all the time in the world to make changes. So, if time is short, enjoy the success of changing one thing at a time.”
