Gino’s weight loss journey started one morning before work. He had an incredibly busy day ahead of him - and couldn’t find the energy to get himself out of bed.  With a demanding work schedule, and a young family to keep up with, Gino realised that he could not ignore his health any longer.

Gino knew it was time to take action.

After speaking to a work client who had achieved success on a Wesley LifeShape Program, he made a call that would change his life forever.

Before his program, Gino couldn’t see anything wrong with his lifestyle, but now admits how embarrassed he is about his previous diet choices. “If I knew then what I know now, I would have done the program so much sooner.”

“It’s not until you go through something like this that you realise life can be better in so many ways. I never looked at myself and thought I was fat - I thought that was just me, just how I was. I now know life can be better,” says Gino.

Six months prior to starting his program, Gino found himself on occasions looking at the Wesley LifeShape website. “I had a busy, full life - I thought it was going to be a lot of effort. I had a fear; I worried that by doing this program, I would just be told all the things I couldn’t do. You see people fail all the time when they try to diet and I feared that would be me.”

Although he had some reservations, Gino went into the program wholeheartedly and he saw results almost instantly. Starting off at the 96kg mark, Gino achieved an incredible weight loss of 26kg^.  But it wasn’t the weight that really surprised him – it was the ‘unintended consequences’ of what he gained from losing the weight.

“It wasn’t just about me” he says. "The relationships with my family became so much deeper; I became a better father and a better husband. I had the energy to get home in the afternoon and play with the girls."

Gino’s family has been incredibly supportive of his weight loss journey, including his 3 year old daughter.

“My daughter now knows almost every type of fruit and points them out to me” he laughs.

“The reality is so much easier than what you think” Gino explains. You have a support team that puts it all into words that you can understand. I started to live. I started to see stuff. I would get up and go for a walk. It became about living and enjoying the things in life I had missed.”

Gino’s experience with the Wesley LifeShape clinic made him realise that he didn’t have to give up on living the lifestyle he wanted to improve his health. His program was perfectly tailored

“People used to assume I would have to cut out many things from my diet, but I would just order champagne and set them straight!” Gino laughs. “I heard what they were saying because I used to assume that too. I thought I’d had to give it all up, but now I know I can have pasta every night of the week. It’s about understanding the consequences of having it” he explains. “I do it with my eyes open and that’s the difference – I am empowered and understand the impact my choices have. It’s a trade-off, but I’m now aware of it.”

With his new found confidence, eating healthily is now enjoyable and no longer feels like a burden. He is continuously making changes for the better, and is so confident of his new lifestyle he has even given all of his old suits to charity.

“It’s up to you to be in control of it because it’s your life. You know you have the support. You go from ‘I don’t know how to start this’, to feeling incredibly empowered. All you have to do is commit to making the change.”
